Spring 2025 Trail Updates

Open Trails & Routes 

  • Minocqua, Woodruff, Arbor Vitae, Vilas and Oneida County, Lake Tomahawk and St Germainpaved routes are open year-round.
  • Note: Hwy 47 through Lake Tomahawk is never open to ATV/UTV traffic!
  • Please follow local signs for any exceptions
  • Vilas County county roads, except in the Town of Lac Du Flambeau, are open year round to ATV/UTV travel. See the linked notice for more details.  

Closed Trails and Routes as of March 25, 2025

  • Lake Tomahawk trails
  • Lakeland trails and routes
  • Hazelhurst trails and routes closed October 31, 2024
  • Vilas County trails closed October 31, 2024
  • Lincoln County trails closed December 1, 2024
  • Oneida County trails closed December 2, 2024

Reminders

  • The exact opening date for each county is determined based on several factors including weather. Stay tuned for updates. 
  • Please follow posted signs.   
  • Do not ride on or in ditches of state roads (70, 51, 47) unless it's specifically marked as an ATV route.   
  • There are no designated routes to access downtown Minocqua—do not ride into town.

Lake Tomahawk Town Ordinances

REMEMBER each Town and/or County in the State May Have Additional Laws.

  • 1 All operators of an ATV/UTV shall possess and have in their possession a valid driver's license.
  • 2 All operators of an ATV/UTV shall carry the same liability insurance that is required by Wisconsin to operate a vehicle on Wisconsin roadways and must carry proof of said insurance covering ATV/UTV they are operating with them.
  • 3 The allowed hours of operation are 8:00am to 9:00pm
  • 4 Lights must be on at all times, and approved hand signals must be used whenever the operator intends to change speed or direction.
  • 5 All riders under the age of 18 must wear a helmet.
  • 6 All ATV/UTV operators shall observe a speed limit of 25mph or the posted speed limit, which ever is less.
  • 7 All operators shall ride in single file.
  • 8 Never ride on Hwy 47.
